I have downloaded the gunreal zip version extracted it in ut2004 root folder.
I can see the Gunreal entry in ut2004 Mod browser
When i click activate, game closes and runs ucc-bin in termainal. thats all

How do i install it properly and make it work?

Did you extracted it as is, ie so it created a folder UT2004/Gunreal/ with all the mod files there?

Also, do other mods installed from plain zip work for you?

Hmm, that doesn't sound very hopeful. I think something non-Gunreal-related is probably the issue, assuming you mean that you have a whole assortment of other mods that don't work.
