Not in the face!

« on: April 13, 2008, 03:48 PM »

Hey there!

Good to see that Gunreal is out, have tried it and it is fabulous. But there is one thing that is a bit irritating, to do with the switch/drop weapon system.

When you have multiple weapons, but you want to pick up another weapon, the drop/switch key thing tends to work. BUT! If you have two large weapons, and you come across another large weapon (one that is so big that you would need to drop BOTH weapons in your inventory to pick up), when you press the drop/switch key as prompted, you simply drop the weapon you're holding (rather than the alternative, which is dropping both weapons and picking up the new weapon).

Now, this probably isn't that game-breaking a problem, but it can get a bit annoying when you're suddenly weaponless because you wanted to pick up another weapon. I hope that others have the same feeling, and that i'm not just more of a lone nut.

Thanks for your time!

Hi Fat Zombie! No, you're absolutely right, and I'm filing a bug-report for this right now.

Swapping should GIVE YOU the weapon you're trying to pickup when you press the Swap-and-Drop key, not just toss your currently held weapon.

Thanks for reporting this.

Brilliant. I'd like to just show a demonstration, anyway:

Pic 1: Ooh, look! A heavy rocket launcher! I'd better swap this empty plasma gun for it.

Pic 2: Oops! Since the new weapon was so big that in order to have picked it up would have required to drop both weapons (or the bigger, unequipped weapon), I seemed to have dropped my current weapon instead! Woe!

(Sorry for the silly description, but I just wanted to make the problem explicit. It doesn't affect it if you'd only need to drop your current weapon in order to fit the new one).

Also, it's a little annoying that the same key gets used for pickup/drop weapon, deploy turret, and activate invincibility sheild. And it will trigger more than one of these at once if possible. Most often, this results in deploying your turret somewhere you don't want it when you try to pick up a weapon.

Yes indeed. The way it will work in final is this that "Use" will prioritize what you're trying to do... thus, if you're trying to get into a vehicle, it won't fire the Invul-Shield, etc.

Also, the Turret won't be deployed by pressing Use anymore. It's probably going to move to the shopping screen, and appear under the Destroyer (in a special color) when you have enough Dark Matter... and, of course it will come with a free Dark-Matter warranty, or the whole experience will take a dive if you get mugged while carrying a turret. Not fun.
